Flowers for a Friend

So these are some pictures which are of some flowers from a pattern a friend had me test out. She is getting married and was interested in knowing if the flowers would look nice. While I think these flowers are cute.. they did not turn out like the picture.. mainly because there were no directions on where to attach the leaves so I just went with where I thought.. And they should of gone higher so they can be bundled up better. I also used pipe cleaners to stand them up and the end of the pip cleaner is in the center of each flower top. The picture above it during the making process. You can see the leaves.. and I did not just have a solid green and am only testing. :P You can also see the flower petals. The pattern calls for Sugar & Cream yarn by Lily 100% cotton yarn which I was able to use the correct yarn.

The picture below is 2 of the 6 total flowers that are made, though the bouqet only holds 5.. or at least the picture did. So maybe the want you to have one extra to keep to give to someone to brighten their day.

(Below) The final bouquet. I was playing around with different color pipe cleaners so the centers are different. I think I am going to try again and make the leaves higher and use maybe some starch on the petals or wire to keep them where i want them.

Last WIP Update

I know it has been a while, but I have had a few other areas of my life to focus on recently. I have had a few side projects going on in the mean time and would love to share them with you. I have made a total of **19** squares from the blanket in the last post. I am trying to use yarn I already have versus purchase more so I found a few extra shades of colors I can throw in. One of them is featured in this post and is the darker tan/beige color. Before it was just the blue variegated and the light tan and dark blue. I did find 2 more skeins of yarn in the variegated blue so I will be able to either make more squares or use it for the border.

One of my many many many .... many WIPs

Meet (one of) my work(s) in progress:

I have always wanted to do a granny square afghan and for whatever reason I have decided to start one. It takes me about an hour if I am giving it my full attention, even though I can do the stitch with my eyes closed. There are 3 acrylic yarns chosen which seem to compliment each other; one variegated yarn and 2 solid cool colors that are contained in the first yarn. The squares (size now) are around 8 inches. I am not sure how many I plan to do or how I am going to join them together, but in the end I know it will look great and be warm. I might be a little off in the one blue, or it just might be shinier, but it seems close enough.

New Yarn

So I was handed some awesome yarn from an awesome family member. She told me that she was unable to complete projects since her dogs were always trying to play with what she was making. I am excited to see what new things I can try with this yarn. I have made a project in the past that had "special" yarn in it (like the last one mentioned here), but usually I am only dealing with wool and acrylic yarn. This is a big treat for me!

The picture with both the Red/Black yarn a.k.a. Cardinal and the solid Black yarn a.k.a. Raven is Bernat Boa yarn. This yarn is eye lash novelty yarn and is a 100% silky polyester. The Black/White yarn a.k.a. "Night Club" is a chunky Bernat Bling Bling yarn. It is a discontinued yarn and can be found on the Bernat website. I myself decided to pick up the last yarn at Michaels. It is a discontinued yarn called Patons Pooch. The color is really a brown and tan and white and is called "Woolly". The yarn is made up of 63% acrylic, 27% wool and 10% nylon.

I had no clue the last one was acrylic and wool, but it shows how I always go for it, even when I have no idea. I have no clue what I will do with this yarn, but I know each one mixes well with others and typically can be made into scarfs, hats, gloves, accessories and toys. Hopefully I will be able to use it for Holiday gifts.

Great Forms of Protection with Yarn

So I had one of oldest cell phones around and was in dire need of an upgrade. So I went to the local store to pick one out. How new should I go? How expensive can I afford? Well I am not one who spends my time buying the current toy to have so I settled on one I liked but that was pretty cheap. As I was playing with the new phone I realized I now have a camera.. (yeah the other one was that old!) and was super excited.

On the way home after changing the settings all around I put my new cell phone in my pocket. By the way, who really wants it to beep when you hit a key? Upon

arriving home as I was getting out the car I hear this crunch of plastic and pavement and I filled with dread. Scanning the ground I found my cell phone underneath the car still intact. Went to view the screen and noticed that it just so happened to land on the one part that makes the phone worthless. The screen had a crack and it was "leaking" into the screen ("I cracked the LCD.") Well I was bummed about the drop though and I went back to my old phone.

I spent the next few days debating on if I should get a new phone and if so the same style. But then I decided I liked the other one and began deciding how to best protect it. With my yarn and needles in hand I made the following case. It is a typical bag just made in rounds. I made a small square patch and put it inside and then put a smaller piece of cardboard in the pocket made with the square patch. This means even if I do drop it, it will have cushion and protection from ever hitting that spot again.

And this other case is for a camera. This is just a rectangle folded over and sewn together lengthwise. But this "shape" comes in handy in lots of things. This particular rectangle has been a container for scraps, knitting needle cushion, crazy creature and then the camera case. It is not as sturdy as to protect it during a drop, but it is good enough to protect it in a bag or a pocket.

Random Creations

Check out what my friend made! The black kitty is a dead on replica of my cat Buddy and this crocheted version includes a squeaky toy inside. She also made the cupcake (left of the other image).


The right side of the image with the cupcake is a coffee I made from a cute book I picked up recently. The bottom image is something coming soon. Can you figure out what it is?

Here Piggy Piggy Piggy

This pattern was featured on Annie's Attic: Free Pattern of the Day. For whatever reason I made them for my dentist. Maybe next time I will try a different piggy pattern. One is creme. One is camp (Forest Merino Wool). The last is pink. Some pictures are from before adding the black on the eyes and snout. The one picture is of the pink pigs ears and tail before it was attached.
